Our customer Nigel Empson Joinery recently carried out this amazing transformation of an ordinary bungalow located in the popular village of Scawby near Brigg in North Lincolnshire.
The project involved removing the existing flat roof and then adding a new pitched and tiled roof with a frame constructed of C24 Graded 47mm x 100mm joists which are regularised with eased edges for easy working. The structure also included 25mm x 50mm treated battens, 25mm x 125mm and 38mm x 100mm planed softwood (PSE) and was overboarded with 11mm OSB 3 board, all supplied by Bennetts Timber from their local depot at Brigg.
Once the new structure was built the underside of the new overhang was then clad using 25mm x 125mm A1 Grade Accoya which was specifically machined to the customers own tongue and groove finish which gives a slight shadow gap.
The Accoya was stained on site and runs lengthways along the new overhang which protects the front door and garage door, completely changing the look of the bungalow to give it a modern contemporary feel. The timber braces fashioned by Nigel act as part of the new structure but also look great and match the Accoya. Recessed LED spotlights were then inserted into the cladding which are both practical and stylish.
To finish the project a complete new door set was manufactured for the customer by a local firm located at Gunness on the banks of the Trent.
This successful project just shows what can be done to improve the look and feel of a property at fairly modest cost to the end customer. Well done Nigel on completing this fabulous transformation.
